Has anyone notices that Agent Fitz on Marvel’s Agents of SHEILD is dressed an awful lot like the new Q from Skyfall?
And these two a mashup of the scientists from Pacific Rim.
I like the look, but Q’s sweater and Fitz’s Sweater are awfully similar. This whole tie and jeans things really reminds me of my college professors. I hope this is a trend that lasts, well dressed nerdy men on TV and in the movies. It’s nice to see instead of the poorly dressed nerdy men like in The Big Bang Theory.
In the new Star Trek movie there’s a scene where Carol Marcus is changing and Kirk takes a peak. When I saw it, the scene reminded me of the time on The Big Bang Theory where Penny slipped and fell. She was naked in the bathtub and needed Sheldon to help her. Penny tells Sheldon not to look but he peaks. As he says later, “The hero always peaks.” And Penny was completely naked. Carol was in her underwear, and it covered a lot too.
Is this any worse than the beach?
Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man 3 is burning and shockingly her shirt is going. However her bra remains completely unharmed. In The Avengers she is walking around in super short shorts, and she totally has the legs to pull that off.
There is nothing wrong with that but for two movies with almost completely overlapping audiences I feel like you know what you’re getting into. The target audience is male. in general, men enjoy seeing women scantily clad. And both of these women looked gorgeous. So, if they are ok with stripping down to their underwear for the movie, who cares.
It is probably the most over done costume in all of existence. Jennifer Aniston did it on Friends, Alessandra Torresani (of Caprica fame) did it for the music video Tonight I’m Frakking You, Kaley Cuoco even did a parody PSA telling women that there are other hot girl outfits and they don’t have to dress as slave Leia. Although a joke, it is getting a little sad how over used Slave Leia is whenever a nerd is supposed to be fantasizing about a hot girl. Nerds have more than one interest. And have more than one outfit they look great in. Next time a show is having a nerd fantasize maybe they could use Powergirl. Bust out of the rut we’re in.
My personal style icons are Tina Fey and the character of Bernadette on Big BangTheory.
The first part of all of this is starts with the glasses. Tina Fey’s glasses are iconic now but Bernadette has a great pair too. Similar but different.
Both are attention grabbers that really will get noticed. I wear a pair that are black wire frames with blue on the inside. They really channel Tina’s. I’ve been wearing one like both of theirs since about 2006. I’ve had glasses since 1st grade so there has to be something to make them interesting or else, I guess I could switch to contacts but I hate the idea of touching my eyes every morning and night.
Sweaters. Bernadette is a master of the cardigan, Ms. Fey is more commonly seen in the pull over variety, but as Liz Lemon rocked the TGS zip up hoodie. I realize that it seems silly to mention but how often do you see women in the media wearing clothes that are meant to keep them warm and comfy without it trying to emphasize that they are slobs? Liz wore what she was comfortable in because she had about a hundred people on any day to organize and make sure they all got their work done. I think it’s awesome when a character is real. In every production house I have ever been in no one wears anything other than jeans and hoodies during the colder months. Maybe a blazer if the clients, advertizers, or executives are coming around but anything else isn’t practical in a work place where even the bosses have to do heavy lifting.
Bernadette’s big, full, floral printed dresses and skirts are a staple of my wardrobe. Something that gets you noticed but isn’t too loud. Something you can wear for a walk or to the office, or out to lunch. Perfection has been achieved.
