I have to say rings are pretty much my favorite piece of Jewelry. I like how small and understated they can be, and how gaudy and over the top they can be. I like the idea of nerdy engagement rings and ones that show your nerd pride in a way that can’t really be seen unless you know what you’re looking for.
Here are some of the pictures from Day 2. I was in a really interesting panel that brought up Cosplay does not equal consent and it’s interesting that it has become such a talking point at cons. Not that the idea is wrong but because it is so right that it shouldn’t have to be stated and because it has to be talked about is sad. ETouching someone without their permission is illegal in any instance. There are so many strong female characters to dress up as but so many of them also dress in overly provocitive manors. I don’t think there’s a problem with dressing like them, but I do think there’s a problem with the way they are created. It also saddens me that when a company tries to move away from an over sexed character look there is an outcry from the fans to change the character back to looking that way. Most recently, Power Girl and her lack an then reinsertion of the “boob window.”
I can’t believe I haven’t talked about nerdy tattoos yet. I have mixed feelings about tattoos. I love them on other people. I think they are so cool and interesting. Except face tattoos. I also hate face cakes, the ones with the edible pictures on them, so maybe it’s just a face thing. I really want to get one in theory but I’m terrified of needles. I also know for me I would probably get bored with the design. When I get a manicure I’ve spent too much money on it to pick it off and change the color but after a certain point that’s all I want to do. I can’t imagine putting something on my body I can’t change.
In college, every year my friends and I over winter break when the rest of the school was gone would watch the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. We had to stay late because we were the pep band and games would go right til the day before Christmas. So the buildings would be empty which meant of course movies so we couldn’t hear the creaks of the old building. It was something that we looked forward to every year when everyone else would leave. We would order pizza or chinese or whatever and sit and watch Lord of the Rings. And of course we would all have to wear our pajamas to this event. Blankets and pillows were a must. Sometimes nerd fashion is just what you wear when you’re with other nerds. Also it’s almost 18 hours of footage about a really pretty piece of jewelry.
